The Adeptus Mechanicus is the game's precision army — a collection of specialists where almost every unit is exceptional at one narrow job and poor at everything else. Skitarii Rangers and Vanguard want different targets. Your walkers want different targets again. The army rewards a player who reads the board and applies the right tool, and punishes one who expects any unit to be generally useful.
It is also the faction most sensitive to buffs and positioning. Mechanicus units frequently operate at a different level depending on doctrines, auras and the support characters nearby, which means a Mechanicus turn involves more sequencing than most armies — the order you do things in genuinely changes the outcome.
Played well it produces the cleanest surgical removals in the game. Played casually it produces a lot of units that miss.
Do not build a toolbox with one of everything. Mechanicus lists that take a single unit of each specialist end up with one answer to every problem and never enough of any answer. Pick two or three jobs and take enough to actually do them.
Support characters are not optional. The gap between a buffed and unbuffed Mechanicus unit is larger than in almost any other army, and cutting the characters to fit another squad is the classic first-list mistake.
If you are new to Adeptus Mechanicus: Write down, before deploying, what each unit in your list is for. If two units have the same answer and no unit has an answer to enemy armour, fix the list before you fix your tactics.
